You can go to almost any light on the water after dark and catch shad. Good places to try are boat launchs if there is a light shining in the water. Just throw your net right up in the launch sometimes as shallow as 1'. During the day you need to go to the windward side of the shore. Look for shad on your graph. Sometimes I have to go as deep as 25' to catch them, but they are there, you just have to find them. In deeper water the bigger the net the better. Let me know how you do.

Built my own minnow trap for less than $20. Bait it with dogfood and you will get all you want.

Great Idea. That sure would save my shoulder throwing the net. I ain't 20 no more. How long do you leave it in the water before you get a catch like that?

arhcersfin, I normally put it out late nite or early morning when the shad normally is shallow. If I dont get any shad I will at least get a few small perch that I can use for bait. If you walk up to a bulkhead or pier just when the sun is coming up and see some shad then drop down in the water with some dog food on the inside and you'll have some shad shortly.
Good luck!
