Took my 5 yr old son to the lucky spot pond today. We were gonna hit the surf but the wind didnt lay like it was spos to! We went midday and they were still very hungry. Caught 7 total on stink bait. My boys pole is strung with spider wire. its been on there since we bought the rod and reel. the first 3 fish he caught broke off at the hook. Obviously the line is bad. Anyone had this problem with spider wire?

The spiderwire question is a good one, but I'm sorry the pics overrulle and are spectacular, what a lifetime of memories. Congrats to the young man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm, quick question about the line and the hooks breaking off...Are you positive the line was breaking, or was the knot slipping and letting the hook/fish get away? I've heard lots of talk on this website about having to tie special knots w/braided line, and I myself have lost a monster of a fish off a jetty once using braided line. Just checkin'.
When I use braided line, I tie a Palomar knot, but instead of making a simple overhand knot with the doubled up line, I wrap it through another time before doing the twist and pulling the loop back over the knot. Is that as clear as Chinese Algebra?
Maybe doing a search online or on this site will make it more clear.

this spider wire was a mono, not braided. and after loosing the fish i tied a new hook and pulled hard and sure enough it snapped at the not!

Im off for 3 days so im gonna go to the bank and pull out some more cash and take him and mommy!
