The winds started blowing on Wednesday afternoon, at least on our part of the lake near Onalaska. The birds and ducks screamed by on the downwind leg (up our cove) and flapped furiously into the wind (back toward the lake...south).
Anyway tonight about 1830 we decided to try our dock...too rough to take the boat out (another story...rough is anything beyond a dead calm to Lady Wings). Nothing...relatively no shad (even our moochy egret Yoyo was looking for handouts) and no bites.
Finally around 1900 we were pulling in the lines when they hit! In the next hour and a half we caught (in the castnet) enough shad to fill the bucket (only kept a few) plus 2 carp, 20+ little perch, three white bass and several small catfish.
Well using the shad we kept the lines in the water (bottom and on corks) and caught six keeper catfish ranging in size from 13 to 23 inches. Nothing noteworthy, but considering we started of so badly it seemed great. By 2030 we had a bowl full of filets...but too tired to fry them up tonight...but tomorrow....hummmm good eats will be had.
