Let my boy play hooky from school today (he has all A's) so I thought this would be a good treat for him. We headed for Anchorage Marina not knowing it was closed until we got there. Used the ramp at the end of 830 and headed to the perch grounds. We put thirty hugh bream in the box and then headed to the bridge for some catfish action. Catfish were a little slow for a nine year old's attention span. Ended up with nine in the two to three pound range. All in all a great day on the water with my fishing/hunting partner.

Sounds like a great day on the water for father son. Sometimes a child can learn from such outings, learn things that you cannot even notice, and that is whether they have all A's or not. If a child just gets hooked on fishing from such an outing and gets to go more later, maybe they will not get hooked on some bad things later. Way to go

Way to go TMT3-father/son together-an outing that will never be forgotten. You son may not say it now, but later (if you watch) he'll mention it to his friends around. I agree with obiewan57-better he/she get hooked on hunting/fishing, then on something much worse. Kudo's to you TMT3. BTW when you put out on 830 rd (I didn't know Anchorage was close either) where did you go to catch those bream? Making plans for my nephew/niece this summer for them to fish-hope I can keep up with then-there're young-brothers kids. Would like to take then to catch a few. Any nearby place from anchorage that offer some shade if needed?

Bowhntr,
What I do is get there right at day light and I head strait across the lake. I think that is the Walden area. Start at the first boat docks you come to and just start working the docks until you find them and then the party starts. I usually fish around 3 to 4 feet deep with a little bit of worm on the hook. It is really fun using the 10 foot fiberglass poles. Once it starts getting hot, we move under the 1097 bridge and catch catfish. The shade of the bridge really helps with the heat of summertime.
