I heard that soap is a very affective catfish bait. Have any of yall heard that?Yes, but it needs to be soft enough to strip on hook without cracking and if possible, fragrance free. Proctor and Gamble used to have a P&G white soap bar that was perfect. I don't know what is avaiable today. The largest cat I caught was a 32 pound blue in the Brazos River.

We get ours from a guy in Seguin, TX. We use it when fishing Canton or the Guadalupe River after a big rain or in dirty water. Works best on smaller channel cats. Not much luck with blues or yellows. Hope this helps. EWV
