if you do that i would suggest wrapping with another a size reg thread coat it then wrap your metallic thread over that ,after it hardens .
generally a thread is triple wrapped , epoxied after each layer of thread .

Thanks David.I have seen someo your work and it is very nice to say the least. I do have a question for you though. when you do your butt wraps are you laying down a single thread at a time or are you using that htbraid that gudebrod has out that is 1/8" wide? I have thought about using it but wasn't sure how it would work out.

All I use on my rods is size metallics now (one underwrap and 2 overwraps). According to Gudebrod website the metallic is stronger than regular nylon 3.5# versus 2.7#. Someone from the Allcoast board did a test a couple years ago and found it took an average of 42# of force to pull a HD Aftco roller guide off a rod with a single layer size A on both sides of the foot that was only a 1/2" long. He noted the failures where not from thread breaking but from the guides bending.

Size A thread is plenty strong for the guides on your rod because you are making more wraps with size A than size C or D. However I usually wrap the guides with size C because because that is what my customers expect. About your but wraps; they will look much nicer with size A thread wrapped one at a time. You can wrap several at a time if you have several spools of the same color but you have to be real careful to keep them properly aligned. I don't use the braid because I don't like the way it looks. If you like it use it. Everyone's taste is different and you need to make yourself happy as long as the rod is for you.

HEY RAMON
I usually use between 2-8 threads of whatever size thread i am using. pulling of the lengths first then taping off. i do use the ht braid , but in their a thread , sometimes the 1/8 thread
