For you guys out there that have had these oil pumps fail, does anyone know why ??? Is it a worn gear _ diaphram_ mechanical failure ?? I am looking at purchasing an 97 250 ox66 and am a bit parinoid about this pump. Are they good for just and "X" amount hours?? Fill me in.......thanks
I dont know why mine went out and the mechanics at ronnies couldnt tell me either. They said it can happen to an engine straight off the line and it can happen at 1000 hours. There is no symptom for it either. Mine ran fine until it blew and then it was already past the point of no return. I wont ever get another 2stroke unless there is some free give away or it is like a fourth the price of a four stroke.

I guess I was kinda spoiled w/ the pre-mix era. I have a 70hp had a 175 that had the VRO's (omc) disconnected .....all I had to worry about was impellers, gear case oil and spark plugs. Its just kinda scary when your miles from shore or in the bay w/ your family and your outboard fails. I guess thats where my membership w/ Boat Tow USA comes in handy. Im almost leaned towards another carbed motor so I can pre-mix unil the price of 4strokes comes down.
I have heard of people disconnecting the pumps on the ox66 and running premix

I was told that too, but the o2 sensor tells the ecm to run rich or lean....so i f you run pre mix it will sense or smell rich. At least thats what I ve been told. I called Ronnies and some dealer on The Hull Truth.com and they recommended not. Although I have heard that it doent affect the performance ??? Any one else out there heard of pre-mix OX66's????
