I am planning a trip to Galveston in May and it will be my first trip to this area. I am bringing my boat and need information about the West Bay.
My plan is to put in right after the I-45 bridge crosses onto Galveston.
I would appreciate any info anyone can give me on boating in the west bay.
I have an 18 ft lund deep V boat with a 115 evinrude motor. My desire is to drift fish for trout and redfish (and anything else that will hit).

Welcome to the forum N2! I fish out of Tiki Island, which is just before you hit the causeway going over to Galveston. If you're not familiar with the area at all and this is your first time there, I definitely encourage you to get a good map before you get down here. The area around the causeway and North and South Deer Islands, can get you in trouble if you're not sure where your going. Lots of shallow reefs in the area, once you get out side the main channels. It's sounds like your boat doesn't run too deep, so you shouldn't have too much trouble getting around. A couple of good places to start fishing are around the Deer Islands, Confederate Reef, and around Greens Cut. These areas should be noted on any map you pick up. If you're coming down I45, just stop at one of the Academy Sporting Goods stores and they should carry a map of west bay. Maybe someone else can chime in and give you some more info, or feel free to ask some specific questions.

might consider putting in over at the yacht club bassin and running over to the north jetties.
