Well, in my quest to buy a boat, I went the second step and went to a marine dealer. I went with the intent on looking at the center console bay boats and came away a shad more confused. I found out some of the older style center consoles are now adopting the bay style hull and can draft in a foot of water. Specifically, I looked at the Sea Hunt line. They have the bay boat Navigator series and the "older style" Triton series. The guy there says the Triton can draft in 12" though the sides are considerably deeper and there is no casting platform. The big whopper for me was that I took my wife and it appeared she felt more comfortable in the Triton. Little $ difference, but wanted to know from fishermen if this (or other deeper V style boats were to fish out of. I can imagine myself in it at the jetties and feeling more comfortable in it.

thoughts?

Cougar,
We've got the Sea Hunt Triton 212, w/ a 200 Merc EFI. We went with it because it's more of a family boat and the parents liked the size and higher sides than your typical bay boat. It's been great for running around Galv. Bay and the jetties. We've had ours about 2 1/2 years and I'm seeing more and more of them on the water. My boss has the Sea Hunt Navigator - 19' and love's his. We've been real pleased with ours, just can't find enough time to use it.
