anybody here have backup lights installed on there trucks, i have thought about putting a set on mine, but only hooked to a switch and not the reverse. who makes a good quality light that puts out a lot of light, would be a huge help while trying to clean game behind the truck or fishing out of the back or whatever. the bigest i can find is 55watts, is that about standard??
Thanks, MIKE

I have some that "Angler 1" and myself installed on my truck, we wired it in directly to the harness so whenever you shift to reverse they come on. These were only about $20 each at Tractor Supply. They would be better if we wired them to a switch but they are still great for seeing through the tinted windows in the dark.
55 Watts are about standard from what I seen.
If you look closely you can see one of them on each side of my receiver hitch.

It's on my to-do list for my truck. But my harness will feed a relay that will use fused battery power for my lights. I don't want to tax my harness. Plus my lights will be a little larger.

I got some little square ones about 35 watts each from Academy for not much money. Easy to hook them into the backup light circuit, which is usually the blue wire in the rear harness. Their mounting brackets are fastened to my receiver hitch cross piece with cable ties.

I have extra backup lights on my Ranch hand replacement back bumper. I like them a lot and they provide a lot more light than just your stock lights. Great for backing a trailer at night as well.

I have a set of white lights on my headache rack that came on when in reverse. There was a lot of glare off the top of the tool box when they were on however so I disconnected them from the reverse wiring and ran a fused wire to a toggle switch in the cab and then to the lights and I can turn them on whenever; really lights up the truck bed. Works great when tossing a dead pig into the back and extra light when cleaning a hog or deer. Be sure and wire it directly to the battery and not the truck wiring as the computer will sense the extra load and may shut down that circuit thinking it's a short; I know from experience.

would it be possible to wire them into my harness for backing up and also to a switch in the cab for use when vehicle is off?

I had the same set up as Trodery on my old truck except I mounted one on the bottom of my toolbox also. All 3 were wired to switch in the cab so I could turn them on any time. Worked good for getting rigged up to wade the surf early.

If they are wired separate and bright enough, they might be good for those who tailgate you at night.
