Help!!!!

I have a 97 F-350 that my 18 year old son drives. The other night he called me and said the dome came on while he was going down the road and won't turn off. My first thought was thats fine just pull the bulb out. He called me back shortly after that and said the brake lights were not working right. It seems the brake lights were always on as well. As he returned home everything seemed to fix itself in route. So the next morning he was going to drive to work and the lights started acting up again. From what he said if you press the brake pedal the dome light comes on. So a freind of his removed 1 maybe 2 fuses (I'm not sure cause I haven't talked to said freind directly yet) and now neither work. Has anyone had these weird intermitent problems before?

I'm thinking something shorted out but don't have a clue on where to start looking for such a short. I don't beleive the brake and dome lights are on the same circuit but I'm not sure. Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be apprieciated. Thanks!!!!

One of the grounds on the fusebox is loose, and some of the circuits are using the dome light and brake circuit for their return path causing them to light up. Same thing happened to me.

Check the screws that hold the dome light in. Take them out and see what happens. If the brake lights function OK, then just grind a little off the end of the screws and reinstall. Sounds "screwy" but fixed one like this once.

Since both the cargo light and brake light are together at the third brake light location I would check there and see if there are any bare wires or losse grounds as stated above.

Make sure all the bulbs are good, these trucks do very interesting things when bulbs burn out.

I Ran Across One , When Blinker Was On Dash Lights Would Flash And When Brakes Were Aplied Bash Lights Would Come On. Problem---- Bad Trailer Harnes Or Wiring Job On Truck. Removed And Solved Problem. Could Be Yours.
