I have a 22 Triton Bayflight and I need to mount my battery charger for my trolling motor batteries. I don't want to mount it on the deck under the console because I use it for storage, the only other place that I can think of is above the livewell, by removing the back cushion and drilling holes and mounting it there on the inside of the console. Do you think the fiberglass would be strong enough and how do ya'll mount your chargers?

It should hold ok but the use of backer board or bar would be better. It would distribute the stress over a greater area instead of just the bolt holes. Same principle as your top engine mounting bolts and plate.

I've thought of mounting one in my boat under the console. The fiberglass is thin so i thought about using liquid nails to stick a piece of 3/4" treated ply wood to it. That way i can shoot a few screws into the plywood and not have to worry about the screw heads sticking thru the other side.

Instead of liquid nails use 5200, it will never come off. It is good stuff for permanent installations.

Mount plywood inside your console. Use 5200 and 1/4 in. stainless bolts how many depends on the size of your plywood. Then mount the charger to the plywood. I would use bolts to mount it to the plywood all the way through the console. dont forget washers on the inside. Dont forget to put a couple coats of good oil base paint on the plywood.

Dumb question but who makes 5200 and where can you buy it in Houston or Rockport?

3M makes the 5200 Marine adhesive. Walmart has it as well as our local Academy and Home Depot.

I mounted my charger under the console using a piece of plywood also. But here is a little variation. I measured for the plywood so the bolts holding the backrest to the console would serve as the mounting point for the plywood and leave a little extra for an inside light (courtesy lamp). Then I measured and mounted my charger to the plywood using "T" nuts from Home Depot so no screws protruded through the back of the plywood. It made for a neat installation and no adhesive was needed.

Hope this helps.

I mounted mine under the console on the front wall next to the batteries.

Well I mounted my charger. I removed the seat back cushion and drilled through the fiberglass on the console and I used aluminum straps the same length as the charger and about 3" wide as reinforcement on the outside to keep the bolts from pulling through and then replaced the cushion. I had never thought about using 5200, I didn't know that it was that strong. Thanks for all the suggestions. Gary
