Two days ago I had to replace my battery at Firestone. After this $105 ordeal, I drove off and went home. The next day i saw that the eng. light was on. ???Hummmm.. I went back to Firestone, they kindly put a eng. ck meter on it and said it was idling too low..550 instead of 750rpm. Hot air sensor?? Card??? Any ideas from U guys? I haven't been to a dealer or someone w/ the capabilites to exactly narrow it down as yet.
So, if anyone has heard of this type of problem when replacing a battery, please reply. I did get on Google and read a piece where this happened w/ the replacement of a battery, the idle went bad. Mentioned something about the computer will go into the "limp mode" and work it's way back to correct the problem on it's own. It's programed to do that!!!

Is it idling really rough? If so, check for a vacuum leak. My daughter recently bought an Expedition with the 4.6L engine and after driving it for a couple weeks the 'check engine soon' light came on and it started idling very rough but would run fine at higher speeds. I eventually took it to a local shop who found the vacuum leak -- the large pre-formed hose in the rear of the motor had a fairly large hole 'melted' in it. It's a 1/2"or 5/8" hose about 20" long with a 90 degree bend in each end.

I got up w/ Bennie at Bennie's Automotive repair in TC, he gave me some good advice. The throttle body housing atop the engine...well, get some throttle body spray and pull the intake hose off & spray inside. I looked inside and liked to have fell out. Soot looking stuff on the flapper and inner housing. I sprayed the entire inside and wiped the "back side" of that flapper, I believe that did the trick. Even added a $11.00 btl. of Tech-Ron fuel cleaner as recommended by him. Thanx Bennie.........................

Remove the IAC motor on the throttle body and clean it out along with the throttle body butterfly, get a small soft brush like an old tooth brush and scrub the inside. Make sure you get throttle body cleaner, not carb cleaner as some Ford throttle body's are coated on the inside. When you are finished the inside should not have any black left, including the butterfly. The engine will be hard to start afterwards, but keep cranking till it starts and hold the throttle open to hold the RPM's up until it clears out. There might be alot of white smoke for a little while, but that is normal. Before you start the engine make sure you have everything back together. If you have any questions PM me I have 17 years experiance working on these.
