The battery on my 2004 suburban died on me today in my driveway. It is a maintenance free Delco and it is only registering 10.4 volts on my meter. I couldn't find anything like an auxillary light or anything else other than a cell phone charger that could have drained it and it was on the road for 11 hours Wednesday. I imagine the heat is the culprit. Wondering if it will hold a charge, being a maintenance free, or should I just get a new one? I don't like being broken down :headknock What is the best battery to replace it with if I have to?

Things to check, if the battery still has 10v, while it is dark go to the truck and check the glove box light and see if it is on. The sneaky thing to check is the lights on the mirrors on the sun visors. GM had a lot of problems in the late 90s with the switches failing on these mirrors.
If no trouble found above, take the battery to your favorite parts house and have them put the tester on it and see whats up. In Texas, particularly with a vehicle like yours AC, maybe dual AC, stereo, lights of lights three years is good for a battery. Some get more and of course some folks will wait until they are stuck someplace at midnight.
I buy my batteries at Oriellys, they don't have quite as many idiots working for them as Autozone seems to. Great warranty program to. I buy two big battereis every three years from them. They are still good when they come out and I use them in tractors or welding machines, etc.

O. K. If You Want Your Bat To Be Reliable . You Should Change Every 3yrs . Ac Delco Is Still A Good Bat. But There Is Also Interstate, Sears Diehard, And All The Other Brands. But The Mane Thing Is To Get The Bat That Is Right For Your Car Or Truck, Or Better. I Am In The Auto Mechanic Bis . There Are About 3 Dif Bat Companys Out There .they Just Slap Dif Names On Them. And Also Have Your Alt Checked Out. And Make Shure Your Bat Cables Are Clean. Some Ac Delco[ Factory] Bats Have Been Known To Leak At Pos Terminal. Hope This Helps. I WOULD GO WITH AC DELCO. CURTIS

I had one leak at the terminal a few years back on a different suburban. The cable just fell off because the post bolt was eaten up. My terminals are clean and no visible sign of corrosion anywhere. I think I'll go buy a new one in the morning and use this other one for my boat if it holds a charge. Thanks for the replies fellas!

IF IT WERE ME BATTERY WOULD GO IN FOR A CORE. I WOULD NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT PUTTING IN MY BOAT. STRANDED ON THE STREET IS ONE THING . BUT IN THE WATER IS INTIRELY DIFFERENT. I WOULD NOT TAKE THAT CHANCE. I had one leak at the terminal a few years back on a different suburban. The cable just fell off because the post bolt was eaten up. I meant as a backup to the backup batteries bro. We carry 3 on our offshore boat and I would make it the 4th considering it could hold a good enough charge to power a spotlight and radio in an emergency. I already bought me a new one this evening for the truck. I didn't want to take a chance on it. I have about 4 extras in my garage that are dead and gone and I turned one in for the core charge.

Ditto what Supergas said.
I like to purchase my batteries from Walmart for the simple reason they do not require testing if you return it for failing before the warranty expires. You just swap it out and hit the road.

Walmart sure made me go thru a battery check. Took 45 minutes...said "go home, it's good!"
I think batteries are set up to go bad after the warranties are about up. I have had 24 mo. ones, and sure enough, one day they are good, the next day ....well..U know...and the warranty was just about UP!!!
I just got an Interstate a week ago. Some batteries '' MATCH THE HATCH"...so get a good one that is made for your engine.
