Martha White hushpuppy mix with cut up onion, pepper and garlic salt or garlic power. I mix water with my, not milk just mostly because I got water all the time, don't know about milk. Oh yea hot oil.

I put a can of chopped up green chiles in mine. It gives them a little flavor without too much spice so the kids can eat 'em. I usually just use the Tony's hushpuppy mix.
The recipe off my bag of cornmeal calls for
1 3/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg, beaten
2 cups boiling water
Haven't tried it but it sounds like it should work to me. I'm too lazy. That's why I use the packaged stuff!

Mama Lou's Puppies
1 cup cornmeal
3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 bunch chopped fresh green onion
2 or 3 or however many you want chopped up jalapenos. Fresh or pickled.
Add about 1 cup whole milk or get the mix to where it is all wet but not runny.
Dip out about 1/2 a tablespoon and rake it off into the grease with another spoon. They will puff up and create their own ball.
Enjoy.
japalenos and use beer instead of water or milk. Beer adds a nice malty taste to puppies.
