After reading a few post this morning about fuel mileage on brand new diesel trucks, I thought I would share with all of you a little about my trip this past weekend.
I headed to the hill country (Lampasas, TX to be exact) Friday evening after topping off both tanks of my old truck. All I was hauling was myself, a small overnight bag, and my golf clubs (so basically no load). As I pulled away from the pumps I reset the trip meter to zero and when I returned to my house (Katy, TX) Sunday afternoon the trip meter read 437 miles. Later that evening I went back down to the service station and topped her off again so I could check the mileage and couldn't believe it when the calculator read 18.6 MPG!
That's right...over 18 MPG on an 11 year old truck with over 250k miles on it. It just makes it real hard to image only getting 14 MPG on these brand new diesel trucks.
I guess its a real testament to just how good that motor is as well as the benefits of keeping the oil and air filters changed regularly.
500K miles here I come!
