I received this answer from the District Supervisor, I am not sure if it says you can or cannot clean fish. If every place in the park is off limits (except boat ramp is not mentioned) but if you can find a place not mentioned to clean fish, then you can dump them back way out into the lake. Am I reading this right? I am going to ask them if they can name the place you can clean instead of the places you cannot clean.

"Thank you for contacting the LCRA with your concern about the fish cleaning
policy at Lake Fayette.

This is not a new issue for the lake. The current policy in effect states:

*LCRA will expressly allow the cleaning of fish at Lake Fayette so long
as the fish waste materials are deposited in the main body of the lake and
some distance away from both park areas and other places where people may
use the shoreline. However, to ensure a clean and pleasant environment for
all park users, the LCRA will continue to prohibit the cleaning of fish at
picnic table sites, cabins, shelters, rest rooms, parking lots, and the
designated swimming area. Additionally, the trashcans and dumpsters
designated for camping and picnicking at Park Prairie and Oak Thicket parks
will continue to be off-limits for disposal of fish cleaning waste
materials.*

RPMF Inc., a private company, operates the Lake Fayette parks for the LCRA.
I have contacted the owner of the company and reminded her of the existing
policy. She has assured me she will review the policy with her employees.

Thank you again for contacting me about this situation. I really
appreciate it when customers take the time to let me know that a problem
exists at the parks. Please contact me directly with any other problems or
questions. "

I received a fast response from LCRA, see below

"Mr. Kirk,

Most customers clean their fish on the banks of the lake. There is plenty of shoreline for this purpose. (away from the designated swim area)

I realize that a fish cleaning station would be the best solution. However, current regulations concerning waste water make this a cost prohibitive improvement at this time.

Thank you for your quick response. This will help me clarify the policy with anyone else that inquires about fish cleaning.

has your head stopped spinning around yet? Sounds like they said you can clean your fish in the park but just not in the park!

It looks like we all got pretty much the same response from the LCRA. However, I wrote back asking about specific places to clean the fish. As Weldon pointed out, their exceptions covered just about every area of the park that was cleared of brush.

I asked if it was alright to clean fish in the grassy area surrounding the parking lot, provided it was not near the restroom. She said that would be fine.

Also, there is a clear area across the street from the cabins if you are staying there that would be within the guidelines.

I think that since we now have the "official" fish cleaning guidelines, we can find some place to get it done. I will certainly print out the email to show the park nazi in case she gives us any flack.
