We didn't win the rod category this time :( I think it was a conspiracy :P

The Cumara is a fine looking rod but the reel seat that is used is a copy of what Airrus and Castaway have been making for almost 2 years. It is still a fine rod and will do very well for Shimano. BTY, the reels are awesome also!!!

We actually borrowed the design from one of our older rod models called the Canis. If you want to talk about dates that was back in 1992... so I guess we did it first ;)

The split grip or skeleton grip has been around a ong time, but it has mostly been done by custom rod makers, and usually for freshwater applications.
I have three rods with this design that were done locally on All Star Titanium blanks. They take a little getting used to, but once you fish them a while you can really appreciate the difference.
I had no idea that Shimano marketed this design previously, butI guess it was just a little ahead of it's time and did not catch on. Cool stuff, though.
