My friend brought his reel over last night for me to clean. The reel has pretty bad corrosion on the frame. It's close to a year old. I was wanting to know if Shimano will cover this? Or will it be considered lack of maintenance?
Other than that, it still works fine, but I'm sure the corrosion is going to cause the reel to fail sooner or later.

Normally corrosion is directly related to a lack of maintenance. Our warranty covers the reel against manufacturer defects. Now if there is a spot where the finish wasn't up to spec and it allowed salt to enter this spot then we would warranty this.
Corrosion issues and warranty can be hard to judge at times. Being that I fish my reels in salt water out here (I know its not the Gulf but...) and with proper maintenance the reels will not corrode.

Should he send it to you and let you determine the cause?

He can send it to us or take it to one of the warranty centers. I cannot guarantee that we will cover this under warranty or not.

Trust me, I understand...I'm in the yacht business. I feel it would be worth while to him anyway, I'm sure you could get him a cost of repairing.
I'll get him to ship it for evaluation...Thanks for help!!!
