Well im about to go and get a Citica but i got a couple questions on my mind just before im sure of getting it... There was a time i went and picked up a Chronarch and there were two models the regular Chronarch and the SF and the salesman was saying that the SF was better for saltwater then the reg. so is that true??? or was he just trying to scam me for some more $$$ just curious before i get the Citica since im mostly a saltwater fisher also if i do get the Citica what do yall recommend for the money the D or DSV thinkin on getting the DSV let me know what yall think
Thanks
*sorry its kind of a long thread

According the the host of this forum, Bantam1, the DSV is the "salt version" of the reel.
I bought one a couple of weeks ago - have not had it at the coast yet, but the 2 fresh water trips that I took it on were great. Casts very smooth with very few backlashes (I'm still a novice at baitcasters). Using 12Lb Suffix Mono, I was able to cast a 1/4 oz Rat'l Trap 20-30 yards with my Laguna 7' rod while sitting in a kayak. I know it will go further when I'm standing in a big boat or wading.
Great little reel and so far I highly recommend it. BTW, if you search this forum you'll find a lot of info on it, but to summarize, it is made on the same mold at the Curado and the Chronarch, and is basically the same as the old green Curado.

I THINK, but don't hold me to this, that SF (super free) is standard on the Citica now, and that the main difference in the DSV (saltwater version) is that instead of the wiffle spool on the D, the DSV does not have the wiffle spool. Not having the wiffle spool allows a few more yards of line, but more importantly, prevents salt water which is on the line as you reel in from going through the holes in a wiffle spool and getting to the inner workings of the reel.
Bantam1 can give you the definite answer.

The SF feature is standard on the new Citica reels. The SV version is designed for salt water. It has a closed spool, larger handle paddles and slightly increased drag surface over the standard D model.

FWIW - I've had my new Citica for a while now (bought it in late 2006), and I love it. Very good reel. I keep it clean and it always performs very well.

whoops. i just asked an almost identical question to the original post. i would like to add though: does the wiffle spool make a difference in casting distance or ability to cast lighter lures?

Yes the lighter spool allows you to throw lighter lures with less effort.
