The frame on our TLD 50s keep breaking. Have lost some nice fish because of it. Shamino just replaces the frames and we crack them agian. Just woundering if anyone else was having the same problems?

How is the reel breaking so often? What conditions is causing these failures? Most of the reels we have seen broken were do to being harnessed in a no hands on the rod when under pressure. The TLD50A reels have been strengthened even further but it sounds like you might need an aluminum framed reel for what you are doing?

A number of guys have done this on big fish out on the West coast.

Thats why you have certain shops (that will remain nameless) that like to bash Shimano.

Generally it's happening to reels that are over loaded with to heavy of mono or braid.

You can only put so much pressure on a graphite frame.

If your catching solid fish, and can afford those kind of trips...you can afford a Tiagra....

You wont find a Tiagra frame busting.....

Exactly... That is why I asked what happened and how. The advantages of graphite is the reduced wieght. With the reduction in weight comes the loss of strength.

I have caught a lot of fish on TLD 30's and 50's in several different locations around the world and have never broken a frame. They are always loaded with 30 or 50 lb line and drags set at 8 and 12 pounds on the button. I have heard of this failure a few times but it was normally someone harnessed in locking down the drag.
