On the 100D I noticed that the main gear, the one that the drag sits down in was made of a lot lighter material than the 100DSV. It appears on the DSV it is a brass gear, but on the 100D it appears to be magnesium. There has been minor corrosion on the gear on the 100D. On both reels, the little gear that connects with the spool, the one that drives the main gear, is brass. I know that the 100D is about .5 oz lighter than the 100DSV. Some of the weight is different because the of the spool. I am assuming that the other weight was reduced by the material of the main gear. Bantam, could you clear all this up for me please.

it's aluminum.

The 100D uses an Aluminum main gear and the 100DSV uses a brass main gear. The DSV is designed for heavier line so we use the brass main gear for improved durability.

I recently put 30 / 8 Power Pro on my 100D. I assumed it would hold about 125 yds but it only took about 100 yds, any thoughts on this and how many more yds would it take to fill the reel with the deep spool?

The deep spool will hold approximately 40 more yards.
