Calcutta 400B, Trinidad 12 or 14 or a Torium 14 would be fine. Rod selection can very depending on what lures, bait, length etc;

Baitcast reels should only be a Calcutta 400 or 700. I haven't seen anyone in Texas or Louisiana ever use a spinning reel on a tarpon.

The larger offshore spinning reels available from the major manuf. are more than capable of handling tarpon. It's almost all spinning gear in Florida.

Don't forget that our tarpon are generally bigger in Texas than in Florida.
A good casting rod is the Shimano Teramar in 15-30 or 20-40.
Casey,
I've been looking as well and looks like the Calcutta 400 for me.

I have landed small tarpon with spinning gear. I think it was 4000 series Stradic. I didn't set out to do that, but it happened (no, it wasn't a poor man's tarpon aka ladyfish, but I caught plenty of those too) :D
