My father recently purchased a 200DC and has not been very happy with it. He has used Curados and Chronarchs for years with no trouble but the Calais seems finicky. It works fine for 20 or 30 casts then a backlash. We have played with the settings and still can't get it right. Have yall had any trouble with this reel? Any recommendations on what to try?
PS he also bought the Stella 3000 and says it's the best spinning reel he has ever used--just wish I could afford one.
Thanks,
Mike

When is it backlashing? If you make a lot of short casts the capcitor might not be charging up enough to allow the digital brake control to work effectively. The reel could also be overspooled with line. This will throw the braking curves off and allow a backlash.

The DC reels are not anti backlash reels. They are designed to reduce casting effort and increase casting distance. Once you find the correct setting the reel will operate flawlessly on distance casting. Use the A setting for short casts and the L setting for long casts. The W is for casting in windy conditions.

Most casts were long as we were usually drifting and casting with the wind--It is not overspooled and he has used it on 2 different trips and used the L and A settings. I will probably try it next time to see if I have any problems. As I mentioned we have both used Curado's and Chronarchs for years no probs--it really seems like it should be an easy transition.

Failed to mention in previous post--using 20 lb Power Pro braid--could this have anything to do with it? (It is also what we use on our other reels with no issues)

thanks again for the reply.

If anything the braid casts better with the DC than mono. If you continue to have problems then please send the reel in for inspection. The Calais DC has a 48 hour turn around time on all repairs.
