I just bought a Skeeter Metro with a 35HP 1972 MERC. I put the motor in a 55 gal tank and ran it for about 30 min's and noticed on the top of the water thier was a layer of brown oil looking goo. Any one know what it sound's like?

Ritch exhaust is caused by bad fuel/oil mixture?

as long as your lower unit oil is clean (no water, not milky looking) dont worry about
the brown goo floating.... this is one of the reasons why the EPA cracked down on
outboard emissions....the brown goo is totally NORMAL for your 1972 Merc... even when
it was brand new, it made brown goo....exhaust oils and fuel residue... a brand new
outboard today has to run cleaner to conform to the new standards...such as the
4 strokers and the Etecs.
