I was cleaning this 4 lb blue from Monday night and found this 4 inch plastic frog in his stomach. It appeared to be a used bait someone threw out and he made a meal out of it. I also found a 10 - 11 inch gizzard shad in a 9lb blue's stomach. Most people don't think of catfish as predators, but Blues and Opps are pretty good at taking large live prey.....

Yep. I've caught cats on a variety of artificial lures over the years. Everything from crankbaits, plastic worms, and even top water plugs.

Here's a pic from one of medulla's recent fish. This 4 pound blue had a very full belly and was still trying to eat a big chunk of gizzard shad! :D

I think of catfish as big time predators. I do alot of catfishing and when the feeding gets real aggresive anything is game even smaller catfish. We had a line with a big yellow on it and when we netted the fish we noticed a little 1/2lb or so blue cat after looking closer we noticed that the blue was foul hooked in the front fin and the yellow tried to eat him. Have also found snakes, eels, small bird, and other odd things in the stomachs of large catfish.

I would never ever ever intentionally forget to take some of them small 8-10 inchers off the hooks when I'm fishing for big opps. :D

NoKillBill, those are mustang grapes and when they are ripe and fall off the vines the blues love them. I put alot of lines around those vines that are in the water. You will be surprised what works and when.

I've heard that when the june bugs get going good, they make great trotline or limbline bait for channel cats. I've never used em, but I have found channels full of em before.

Here in N. Texas them blues like chicken and limes. Caught a 20lb blue on the front end of a drift that had 1/2 of a lime and 5 chicken bones in it's belly. Caught a 25lb blue on the back end of the same drift that has 2 1/2 limes and 7 chicken bones in it's belly.

I think I'll marinate some raw chicken in lime juice and go for a drift.
