I fish out at Lake McQueeny pretty often for bass and crappie. However, I have not done any catfishing out there. Palerider is going to be in town to fish in the little ho-down at Calaveras with me in a couple of weeks and we were thinking of trying find some kitties at McQueeny one evening.

Anyone got in tips they are willing to share?????

Thanks!

They should still be spawning right now. Find a brushy looking cove with about 4-6ft of water and chum or bait the area. This works for Choke Canyon and I have never done it at McQUeeny, but it should be similar.

Solid Action,
I'm going to Choke the end of the month for 4 days. What are you using for chum? I also thought about puting out a few drop lines. Do you know if there are any restrictinos for this at Choke?

I fish mcQueeny somewhat often, not as much as I should being 8 minutes from the house. It's a good little fishery..late eveing..night. Lots of lake lice out there on sunny days..too much.
catch fresh shad or punchbait and drive all the way up to the dam. Fish there with shad and fish the slack water and current as well.
Might not catch a boat load but size is usually genrous to me on Mcqueeny.
Mc Buck , shoot me an emial or PM and maybe we can go. It's right by my house and I've been itching to go. Just can't break away from Cally for clinetele.

Thanks, Cliff. I will give you a shout. Weeknights are usually best because all of the teenie boppers aren't out there cruising in daddy's boat.

guiness,

My Dad sours buckets of grain to bait holes with and I'll toss out a little blood type chum to get 'em going if I know they are in a hole. I usually bait 4-5 different holes in different depths of water and then come back and fish them all.

To my knowledge, you can have drop lines at Choke. I know I see plenty of them out there. I think you just have to have your name and address on the jug for it to be legal. Someone else can probably speak up and confirm this though.
