Just curious how you guys hook your crawfish. Ive been told to hook the smaller ones through the upper part of the tail close to the body and the larger ones through the tail both with the hooks pointing up and carolina rig them with the bait clickers on.
Im going to sommerville in a few weeks and wanted to toss a few lines out that I dont have to watch. This is assuming the bite would be slower than with punch bait or liver.

That's how I do it. Thru the base of the tail.
First, you gots to get the water boilin nice and spicy... Why waste a crawfish? ;)

Rigging them through the base of the tail will keep them alive most of the day. You may not catch as many fish with them, but in my experience, you will catch more quality fish.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I can castnet some shad early and do well enough on them and some punch bait to fill a cooler, i just thought it would be nice to catch a few bigger ones. Maybe Ill set out a bigger live bait on a circle and see what turns up.
I peel the shell off the head and tail and leave the bottom on. This will release lots of sent and the bottom legs will help hold the hook better. I start from the tail and exit the hook thru the bottom (belly/chest area). I had good quick bites like that on the Brazos.

How do you rig crawfish?
me?.....
i boil'em with:
zattarans
tabassco
salt
bay leaves
onion
garlic
lemons
taters and corn
a little sausage to add oil that's helps'em peel easier
then toss'em in a cooler and sprinkle summo zattaran powder on'em as i layer'em in to get that xtra 'hand-to-mouth' spicy taste
and lotza ice-cold beer
(sorry,..... couldn't resist! ;))

Peel them just before putting them on a hook, and curl the peeled tail w/leftover guts on a hook and as little weight as you can get by with. Any game fish near by will come pumping to eat it. I've caught crappie, black bass, white bass, and all species of catfish this way. I like to fish the Little Elkheart Creek below Houston County Lake with a spinning rod and a split shot. Let that crawfish swing with the current into a bend or deep hole and you never know what will bite you.

hey shad...did you go to the crawfish boil at the wet deck last weekend? you would have had plenty of crawfish to bait your hooks....and maybe some bikini's to fill the boat! Ah yes...and plenty of cold beer.
I was there if you were...i was the one on the jet ski..only one jet ski that was me....if not...shame on you. sometimes fishing from land is interesting!!

I start the hook at the v of the tail and bring it out just below the head, they will stay alive like this and crawl around on the bottom. Just be sure and not get the hook into the body cavity. Have had good luck with the white ones we seine out of sloughs, and very little on the big red ones you buy.
