Saltwater Shad

Has anyone used saltwater shad (Think they are actually called menhaden) as cut bait for cats? Due to the larger size thought it might work well for larger cats. Larger bait larger fish theory.

I've used offshore bait and they still love them (sardines). I just have to keep them semi frozen or the little ones chomp the hell out of them.

i use to save mullet from the gulf for my lines did alright when couldnt get any other bait and have cought mud minnows in lake somerville before so try em just to see

i used some in fayette lake. i did not catch many cats but did catch the 2 biggest fish of the trip on them.

They work great for me, that is about all I use most of the time since I can castnet them most of the year.

I have used mullet, saltwater shad, and sand trout for freshwater blues with very good results. Especially cut mullet, blues love them!
