I am wanting to take the kids out for some cats this weekend on Conroe. I have been reading the shad and cats are on the bulkheads. Are they on all the bulkheads or just certain ones? I mean are they on the main lake or back in cuts along the bulkheads? And if I cant catch any shad what is the second best bait to use?

Thanks
Robert

The way that I catch the most fish on the bulkheads is to not settle in one spot to long. Cast your bait as close to the bulkhead as you can and if you dont get a bite within a few minutes cast to another spot along the bulkheads. If I catch one or two fish in a spot right off the bat and then it dies down I immediately move to another section along the bulkhead.

I have caught cats in several different parts of the lake along the bulkhead so I would assume that they are all over the lake. I do tend to find them in the shallower parts this time of the year.

As far as what baits to use, the only bait I use is shad but I know others use Sureshot and other punch/dough baits and also chicken liver.

Thanks Rog for the info. One other question, is there any where around Anchorage Marina to catch shad?

Thanks again,
Robert

Anchorage Marina would be a good start! :D When the shad are really moving shallow, you can catch all you want right at the boat ramp or anywhere along any bulkhead. If not, try anywhere with lights or windblown sandbars/bulkheads.

Hint: make sure you catch your bait while it's still dark out.

Thanks capn I will give it a try this weekend. As long as the weather permits. If you see a CC Kingfisher this weekend come by and say hello and maybe some pointers. J/K
