Are beef hearts good to use for Jug lines? If so whats the recipe you use to prepare them for bait?

when I'm making bait and using any kind of meat I add a cup of sugar to a quart of bait. stir it up and let it sit for a day or two and it will "harden" the meat and it will stay on the hook alot better. I've never used beef heart, but I think it would work. Take some beef liver with you and some chicken livers too for backup.

Beef heart makes pretty decent bait when you can't find shad, I generally have some on me in the boat just in case it's hard to make bait. No recipe, just cube it up and stick it on a hook. You don't to harden it or anything, it's much tougher than livers. The fresher and bloodier the better, so buy whole vaccum packed hearts if possible, not presliced.

In fact, I'm rather fond of dicing it up and putting it on the hook while still frozen. Sounds funny I know, but that way all of the blood hasn't had a chance to run out of it and it eases into the water slowly while defrosting.

a lot of the old timers add garlic to the beef heart once its cubed up, and swear by it.

Not sure why but why do they use Garlic spray or plastics. Check your PM's

I cube it up, put strawberry jello on it and refreeze it. Don't know that it gives me an edge but it makes me feel better about it.

Spot on!!

Also, I've heard that folks use garlic because it triggers the same scent receptors a blood.

I had a guy tell me that beef spleen works very well for catfishing. He uses them on his trotlines. And if you think about it it should work since the spleen is what the blood runs through.

just my $.02

Heart is good, liver(at least beef) is a waste in my opinion. I've gave many a fisherman that someone had told what you heard bait, so they wouldn't go home fishless. I've seen many a full pack of that stuff laying along the bank below the dam and at docks all over the lake. I would never use it. It could work , but from what I've seen,,,,NOT!

I've used beef liver and chicken guts and have cought catfish. Has anyone tried Ivory or Zote bar soap for trotlines and jugs? Soap stays on good and catches fish.
