I tried Danny Kings punch bait for the first time Saturday. They were hitting it as soon as I casted it out.But I could not get a hookset on them.I tried leaving my poles in the rod holder to see if they would hook themselves. That did not work either.Has anyone caught white bass on it? I know the majority of the bites were catfish but I had also been catching white bass on earth worms.I dont know the name brand of treble that I was using. It did have a small spring on the shank to keep the bait on.What is a good treble hook to use?

Try a much smaller hook size, see if that will help. It very well may have been a big school of perch or brim that were hitting it to pieces without getting caught. Big minnows will do that too.

I use a slip cork (small as possible) and started a long 4 count before setting the hook. The main problem was that we were only catching dinks. Nothing over 14 inches.

Just use a plain old treble (no spring). Punch bait is made to stay on a treble. You can try a #8 0r #10, but, even a dink cat will eat a #4 or #6 treble. We catch dinks on 5/0 circle hooks.
Try setting the hook the very second you feel the slightest nudge.

I always use split shot weights, smallest treeble hooks, and a light line when fishing dough or stinky bait. Be fast on the hook set or they'll steal your bait. Heavier weights with shads because they stay on the hook better.

I go to the smaller hook size - #8 or 10 when the fish aren't taking the bait. It usually works. Like PR said, skip the spring on the hook - don't need it.
Good luck next time!
