I know that the limit on catfish is 25 per day and 50 in possession.
The other night I went out and got 7 before midnight and got 18 after midnight.
I was tempted to stay and get another 7 to make it 25 for the "day" but was worried about what the warden would think.
Could I have kept 32 for the trip and if so do you have to place them in a different cooler?

Thanks!

the game warden at fayette said to take the first days limit to the truck and put them up and go with a new ice chest and you can start on the 2nd day limit. don't keep both limits in the boat together.

Correct with all fish limits. take first limit to truck and keep it in a separate ice chest as the second limit. The warden can tell by the eyes and gills which is which! Its legal but make sure to keep them separate, in two different containers.

the key words are in possesion while fishing, Wspout and Tufishare are correct , per my phone conv. with TP&W in Austin.

they have to be in separate coolers, take 1 daily bag limit to the truck before midnight, then keep the other in a separate cooler for day 2.

make it easy on them and yourself and be polite , the burden of proof is up to you .

good luck.

Main thing to think of is when do they really check you. at the ramp or in the water 90% of the time. if one chest is in the boat and one in the truck. He shouldn't even question it unless he's in a bad mood and a rookie.

Hey , come to Livingston and fish, it is the only Texas lake where the DAILY BAG LIMIT is 50! for catfish. The responders to your q are correct about take it to the truck in another cooler. Once while fishing Keith Lake me, my son, a friend and his son caught a limit of flounder( my friend and me, the boys didn't catch any) on a Friday. We spent the night in a motel and went back the next day. The tide was wrong for flounder, but we found a big school of slot reds, and black drum. After catching our limits of slot reds and a few drum we concentrated on hooking the boys up. They caught their limit of reds and black drum. When we got to the ramp the wardens were there and checked us out. It looked like a slaughter with all of the fish we caught that day, but it was a legal limit.
The game wardens told us good job, and my 10 year old son said " You should see the other ice chest full of flounder in the truck!". This caused some raised eyebrows on the wardens who asked to check it out. Of course we complied and they did. The wardens were satisfied that all was legal and complimented us on both our fishing ethics and taking our boys out to fish. It is one of those days my friend and I ofetn bring up and revel in. It would have not been a good memory if we had taken the flounder ice chest with us in the boat.
