!!!WOW!!! What a blast.
Willie, enjoyed it and thanks for the assistance.
Willie cleared all the rods and pulled the anchor while I was reeling the fish in.
We begin the night setting jugs near Walden then headed to the Bentwood sign and it wasn't long before we were boxing fish on rod and reels. The yellow bass moved in and ran us out of this spot.
We ran the jugs and then went to rod and reel the spot I caught the 29# last weekend.
We caught a few cats and Willie boxed a decent hybrid.
I had a large gizzard shad head tossed out the back of the boat while we were chunking button shad to the boards. A few clicks go off on the rod out the back so I pick it up. After a few moments a fish slowing bends the rod tip. I lift the rod to set the 5/0 circle hook neatly in the corner of the fish's mouth. The fish goes swimming off like it doesn't even know it is hooked. I tell Willie I have a BIG fish on.
Willie clears the rods and anchor then mans the net. The fish never really went on any violent runs like ops are known for. It did go on several drag pulling swims in the park hahaha...I had just went through the drags on all my reels and it sure makes a difference when the drags pull smooth instead of jerky.
As the fish gets close to the boat I mention to Willie it would be alright if we didn't catch it, I just want to see it. It was that kind of fish. The fish finally came to the surface, did a lazy half roll and then off it goes the smooth drag whips him again and I gain back all the line it spooled on it's final long run. It goes for a few more final lunges just as we go to net it and then we got him.
Willie does a well seasoned mate, head first net job and we marvel at the spectacle that is a 58 pound op laying in the bottom of the boat.
A few quick pictures and off it goes to from where it came.
Thanks again Willie!
