Easy-Off oven cleaner!!! I have used it on some old mirr-o-lures that had the foggy film and rust stains on them and it took the stuff right off.

Somewhere I heard about a bathroom cleaner called "The Works". Supposed to be able to spray it on and then rinse it off. I've never tried it but it sounds good.

Bunch of good ideas I have not tried.

The dishwasher with your normal dishwashig detergent (Cascade etc..). Just make sure mamma and the kids will be gone for awhile.

Lures in the dishwasher is not widely accepted .

Home Depot sells a rust remover in a spay bottle. I think it is called Rust Away, or something catchy like that. Spray it on and rinse it off after about five minutes. No manual labor required.

I just used the old 5 gallon bucket, some hot water w/ some bleach. Let them soak for awhile then a few needed some scrubbing. The old rust covered tackle boxes went in to the dishwasher like mentioned before. Worked good for me.

No Better feeling then a clean box of lures that I can finally now use. Sucks not being able to use the lure you want because it has rusty hooks, etc.

try auto polish or wax...shines that old plastic back to new again...remove the hooks,
dab some polish on the lure, start rubbing with a clean rag, shines up really quickly
pretty amazing

Just read that for cleaning spoons and blades on spinners, go get some ash out of your bbq pit and start rubbing away...Maybe make a paste with some water and then rub it on in...The ashes act as a fine abrasive...maybe try ketchup on spoons as well...we used to clean coins with this when I was a kid...Haven't tried it yet...usually misplace them by the time I need to clean...

Goo Gone works like a charm. spray it on, let it soak for a minute and wipe it off. It's amazing how clean it gets.

Funny you this thread came up I had several topwaters I found in an old tackle box that were very rusty I tried lime away the works and several other products....I got them cleaner but there were sevral spots on them that that had rust that would not come off

I just happened to have my dremmel tool on my work bench and i had the litle soft wire wheel attachment on it. I set the speed to about 3 or 4 ( pretty slow ) Man that thing took every bit of rust and crud off those lures and didn't scrach the paint at all. I had already taken the hooks off and it made it easy to get around the tight spots where the split rings attach to the lure etc. I put new split rings and hooks on and those lures look brand new. If yo have a dremmel and some nasty plugs that you think are to far gone you might want to try it!
