Okay the basic setup is 4 hours of fishing with juglines (3 hooks per max) baited with shad. Total weight from the 4 hours fishing determines the winner. Suggestions for the day and time slot? Let's make daytime, cause I'm old and like to sleep in my bed at night. Who is in?
Who fishes for catfish during the daytime? And 5 hook rigs are mo better in deeper water.
But, I would probably not participate unless I just happened to be out there, so don't mind me.

For those not in on the original post regarding this gentlemens contest; this is a one time winner take all head to head cat battle to see which is the better cat fish lake, Livingston or Conroe, sorry Lake Houston just can't be considered.

Sniff,.. sniff,.. do I smell chicken livers Capn?
Sorry, can't do that. We only jug fish at night, the daytime pics you saw with the big cats were only because tha'ts when we picked up the jugs. And, our jugs are 5 hook rigs. Not worth cutting hooks or modifying rigging. Sorry!
Plus, I'm secure enough in my manhood to know that Conroe is obviously better without needing a tourney to prove it! :D

Boooock, bock bock bock, just kidding Capn. I have loops on my rigs that I can add up to 5, but perfer 3, cause Livingston blues are so plentful and big that more than 3 are too hard on my back, not like Conroe. LOL

Fresh Water Is For Drinking.......lol
Agreed Big Rob - but it's also useful for stocking the freezer after hunting season with 25 fish limits... ;) Then go to the salt. :D
Slinger, I know what ya mean! We had a 4 fish jug last weekend with a couple of 5 pounders, and a 20 on the bottom hook. That's work! The 33 also had two other 3-4 pounders on. On my personal jugs for the marsh, I use trotline clips so I can fish shorter rigs if I want. But Joe's are not rigged like that, and the lines on my jugs are not long enough to fish Conroe.
The thing about Conroe, is that in the limit we caught last weekend, we caught only 1 throwback. And we were surprised to catch that one. You could make a seriously heavy stringer on jugs, especially since we normally put the big ones back.

I never keep them over about 6 to 8 lbs, after that the table quality drops and plus those big gals are awesome spawners. Big Rob, ever caught a blue over 20lbs on R&R? Or a striper over 20? They will give you a fight.

Agreed! If I'm out of fish I'll keep em up to about 10 pounds. When I've got plenty of fish, I'll let anything over 6 go. They just don't eat as well. I don't even like cleaning the big ones!

I propose a new season on jet skies, archery tackle only, 10 per day.
Good reason to fish at night, that's for sure. It's a little worrying to watch them use jug lines as a slalom course - if only they knew about the hooks under there.

Well the "cat battle" challenge didn't happen, that's okay. I enjoyed the back and forth. I am interested in fishing Conroe for cats, I never have fished there. The reports I see from Txpailrider, Mr Buck, and Capn are impressive, especially those good size channel cats, or maybe I'm confusing Conroe and Fayette. Good luck to all, I think I'm going to go below the Livingston dam and sink the boat with whites and blues this weekend, maybe a jet ski or two.
