Hey guys I just purchased a cheap R/C helicopter from walmart and I think I'm hooked. Some friends of mine when I was younger had some cool off road trucks that ran on gas...I'm thinking nitro now that I have been looking around. I talked with my old buddies about a year ago, I said I would like to get into the hobby. They said that the gas was hard to find and very expensive. Is there any that run on 2 stroke fuel? Some thing like what my weed eater runs on?
Say if i go electric is there a battery that will run for longer then 15-20 mins say 45 ish?

Nitro is not hard to find. Expensive is a matter of opinion. You can get a gallon of fuel for aound $20, that will give you at least 2-3 hours of run time depending on what your running. For me it's money well spent, because in my opinion nothig in R/C is as much fun as burning nitro.
For most battery packs under $100, 15 minutes is about as good as it gets. Getting better batteries is where this hobby can really get expensive. You can get Lipo batteries that I have heard will run for about 25 minutes, but they cost about $150 a piece, and you will also need a special charger for them, and the other electronics that are required. On the other hand, for $150 you can get 4-5 battery packs that will run for 10-15 minutes each.
I would say that over-all, pound for pound, nitro and electric are pretty close cost-wise. The bottom line is that this is not a cheap hobby.
Micro and 1/18 scale cars are cheaper, and the batteries usually last longer, but for bashing they are not as much fun IMO. Mostly due to their lack of ground clearence, they are very limited to what they can do.
The best advice I could give is to go to a hobby shop, or better yet, a race, and check them both out. Then go with what you think will be the most fun for you, and then setup a seperate bank account for your new R/C obsession. LOL.

There are cars that use gasoline for fuel. They're 1/5 scale or larger though, and generally start at about $1,000 or so ready to run. They're too big to run on the tracks here except for the northside track that's a 1/4 scale concrete oval. HPI makes one, so does Duratrax, there are some others. don't know which part of town you're in, but I know that RC Hobby in Sugar Land has 1/5 on-road and I think the HPI off-road in stock. Some of the other shops may also.
