Boyz

I'd just like to say howdy and let you all know I will be dropping by to learn all I can about cats.

I normally fish for flatheads and do some fishing for blues and channels when flathead are innactive. My wife and family will join me fishing when they can and we all have a good old time being outdoors.

Welcome to the forum Katchaser.I am sure that you will find The Catfish Lounge a fun, entertaining, and helpful place to learn about catching catfish. Ok, maybe TRYING to catch catfish. At the least, you might hear a good fish tale. ;) Enjoy.

I feel a bit remiss in failing to welcome you to the board. I've been a little busy of late, and haven't spent any time posting here, although I have read a few lines of text.

Apparently your reputation preceeds you, as the rest of the regulars seem to recognise your name. I do not believe I have had the pleasure of reading anything you've written, but if you would be so kind as to post a link, or to tell me where I can find the articles you've written I'd be honored to take a peek. Something tells me that I'll be learning a lot more from you than you will be from me. Welcome to the Catfish Lounge... I hope you'll invite a friend.

After reading through your website,I have a coupla observations and questions.First,Why do you take your boat to a bank or bar,and fish the bank, instead of fishing from your boat?Just curious to learn something.Secondly, you obviously are gifted with the written word, and describe your outings vividly....I look forward to reports that make ya feel like you were there.Third,Where didja pick up the term,"Cross his eyes!"?My friend, and former Santee catguide,Buddy Bradham, used that phrase on every flattie hookup. In fact, when one of my presentday buds,Tony, and I,speak of Buddy,we look at each other, grinnin',and holler,"Cross his eyes!".

I will try to answer your questions.

Why do you take your boat to a bank or bar,and fish the bank, instead of fishing from your boat?
Fishing for trophy flatheads requires silence and a long wait. These two do not often coincide on a boat. Finding habitat that holds big flathead and then fishing it from the bank allows me to get comfortable and remain quiet until a big cat comes feeding.

Third,Where didja pick up the term,"Cross his eyes!"? I am not sure where I picked it up. I fish with live bait and Kahle hooks and with a lot of line out, I need a vicious strike to set a hook solidly into a big flathead.
This term might come from anyone standing behind me when I think it is time to hook a fish:redface:

Also to anyone thinking of specializing in fishing for trophy flathead.
Be patient. The term "Getting skunked" doesn't apply to flathead fishermen.
We practice our fish fighting in our heads several nights before initiating live action.

Hey Train,,,i Got One For Ya When It Comes To The Term "cross His Eyes" Back In My Tournament Bass Fishing Days My Partner Was In The Front Of The Boat With Me And Fishing A Hump With Lizzards And I Had One Hit Me And I Laid Into That Sucker, but I Missed Him. Funny Part Was I Hit My Partner Right Between The Eyes With That 8' Heavy Action Worm Rod.it Put A Welp On His Forhead An Inch Wide.his Eyes Watered For An Hour And Had A Heck Of A Head Ache. Every Time Things Would Get Quite, I'd Start Laughing,to Me It Was Outragous But To Him It Was Pain. I Guess You Can Say I Crossed His Eyes
