We are wanting to put out some Christmas trees at Toledo Bend. I've never done this before. If anyone can give me some advice, I would really appreciate it. How many trees do you need to be effective? How do you recommend tieing together? How much weight and what kind of weight do you need? Water depth? Should they be put out on the edge of a deep hole or creek channel? Thanks again!

i don't think location matters much, the fish will find them. i would try to put them in 15-20 feet of water. we have always done one tree at a time (not trying to tie them together) and weighted them with cinder blocks(3 per tree should be enough) with plenty of nylon rope. as far as number of trees, i've caught plenty of fish on single trees and giant piles that probably had 20 or 30 trees together. so, i would say the more the merrier, but that's your call.

golfpro02,
Thanks for the information. Do you fish the trees in spring & summer? 15 to 20 seems shallow for winter fishing?
I would place the piles in 15-20 feet of water protected from the south wind as much as possible. Putting it near depth changes, creek channels and bends in the river will increase the productivity in my opinion. Toledo Bend already has so much structure, you'll need all the help you can get by placing it in a good spot so that fish are drawn to it rather than one of the million stumps.
Protection from the south wind is because that is the predominate direction, 15-20 is because that is a good all around depth. They may be a little deeper in the dead of winter to keep warm and they may be a tad shallower in the summer to stay above the dead water.
One block should sink 1 or 2 trees.
