Has anyone built a fly rod using a Tiger Eye blank? They are very inexpensive blanks and a friend wants me to build him one. At less than $40 it makes me wonder if these blanks are worth building a rod on. However, in all of research on the internet, I have not found anything negative about these products. This 6 wt. rod will be used to fish for small bass in stock tanks.

I built a spinning rod on a Tiger Eye blank once. It seemed to have a good action but was not real sensitive. Customer liked it so that is the main thing. I try to convince them to buy the best quality they can afford even if they have to buy it off the rack. As we all know you can buy a good quality rod off the rack for what the components would cost.

Ellis flatfish charlie's fly rod yellow feather is built on the same makers blank he loves it. i find no problem with them if you like a traditional action. faster actions are 4 piece versions of that blank the 2 piece are a little soft.. i love them and build on them all the time. have had no complaints yet. knock on wood. give them a shot.

Thanks guys. I think the two piece should work fine in this case since my friend will be using it to fish around stock pond edges and needs to make short casts.
