Skipped a Friday night trip to the Jetties, glad we did, do to the storm that passed trough Deer Park and moved south to Galveston. Settled on an early AM trip to West Bay. Area south of Causeway dirty/off color early AM, decided to fish Campbells and chase birds. Water was in good shape, lots of birds working but same song, jug trout, sandies, gafftop. Caught and released all the jug trout we wanted, used shrimp under corks, not alot of boat traffic, I guess everyone went to the jetties. Fished north side of Sand Island nothing, moved over to the north side of Pelican and caught 3 specks to 20". Wind started blowing and decided to call it a day at 10:30am.
A special "Thanks Pal" to the guy in a blue and white Bay stealth with five teenagers with him. We were working a school of birds, no other boats around, looked over my shoulder and here comes this guy, glides right through our drift between us and the birds. At least he was on his trolling motor, man want nerve or stupidity. I put my next cast 5' from his boat, that's how close this guy came to us. Pulled a 13" speck right out from under him, served him right!! Released the trout, put the rods up, spoke to him as diplomatic as I could, about courtesy on the water, eased out of the area on the trolling motor before firing up the big engine. Maybe he got the hint!!!
