I guess it serves me right. Just when I was beginning to think that I had a handle on jetty tarpon fishing I go no bites, no hook-ups, no landings. I had gone four trips, back to last fall with at least jumping a tarpon on a trip but, even though they were at least a few there, I couldn't get it to happen.
The only hook-up I had felt like a big redfish that must have decided that it had a hot date in Florida because it headed east out toward the mouth of the jetties on a non-stop pull. I tightened the drag to try to keep from being spooled and almost immediately there was a sound like a pistol shot and the fish was gone.
This was all Friday. On both Saturday and Sunday I couldn't get anything to bite on lures.
Oh well, maybe next time will be better.
